Our long-awaited April vacation is here! What a way to kick it off with our talent show today. As members of the audience, it’s sometimes difficult to recognize how much courage goes into getting on that stage!
Speaking of courage, I cannot really think of April vacation anymore without recalling the events that happened two years ago. Yesterday was the second anniversary of the Boston Bombing, and this Monday will be the 119th Boston Marathon. While April 15th, 2013 was a horrific day, I remind myself that the situation would have been much worse had there been a lack of courage. When everything appeared to be falling apart and when we were all fearful that we couldn't trust others, it took the grace of perfect strangers to band together and make one another feel whole again. We learned that villains do not only exist in comic books and movies, but we also learned that the same is true about heroes. There are heroes among us every day. If you spend so much time fearing the villains, you might miss out on finding the heroes.
No matter what you do over the break, I wish you safety, happiness, and relaxation. When we return, we’ll do more with our Reader's Theater, and soon after, we'll start our cultural heritage unit.
Until then, take care!
-Ms. Sanford
P.S. I had fun during the Teacher vs. Student volleyball game today. To those of you whom I competed against, you were great sports and awesome competitors.
P.P.S. This time next week, I'll be gearing up for my big skydiving adventure. Don't worry. I will video it--just for you, kiddos.
