Cherubs, Scholars, and Companions,
I gave you a final letter during our last in-class meeting this week, so I don’t want to burden you with even more of my words. However, I cannot end the year without writing one final update! Please also know that all past updates will be available throughout the summer. You may take a walk down memory lane if you’d like.
For those parents/guardians who read these updates, I just want to extend my appreciation for setting an appropriate tone for children and serving as role models at home. I understand that during the school day, I also have the ability to set the tone, as my choices are observed and interpreted by young people. Dr. Haim Ginott expresses this perfectly: “It's my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or de-humanized.” I’ve always tried to bring sunshine rather than rain.
Students, as you know, I've cherished this year with all of you. Next week, we’ll spend a good portion of the time taking finals and cleaning. I do expect you to stop by on the last day and say bye to me though!
Be kind. Stay safe. Wear sunscreen. Save an egg and crack a smile.
