I will be announcing an upcoming creative writing assignment very soon. This will be different than most of the writing we've covered thus far. You will not need to "cite" the text. You will not need to analyze passages. Rather, you will get to take on the role of one of the characters from The Lightning Thief and re-tell one of the scenes from the perspective of a character other than Percy! Therefore, I suggest you get those creative juices flowing! If you'd like to start brainstorming now, feel free! Remember though that "creative" means "original." Please don't discuss your ideas with your peers because they may subconsciously borrow those brilliant ideas!
-Ms. Sanford
P.S. Congratulations on making it through your first session of the MCAS! We will continue with the second session on Tuesday. Then, you will not hear the word MCAS out of my mouth for the rest of the year!
Parent Outreach: Here is an excellent resource called "How to Help Your Child Prepare for Standardized Tests": http://www.colorincolorado.org/article/23148/. Since students are currently taking the ELA MCAS and will be taking the math MCAS in May, one of the most helpful tips is simple but powerful: "Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a healthy breakfast." As I explained to students, when we are tired or hungry, it's often difficult to focus on important tasks. Therefore, for big test days, a good night's rest and a hearty breakfast should be requirements!
